NOTCHING TOOL*

A very useful tool for cutting out irregular shapes, or producing large holes (round or rectangular) in sheet metal. Will handle mild steel, brass, nickel-silver, aluminium, plastics, up to 1,2mm (.048in.) thick. Especially useful for cutting out window apertures etc.

Width of cut 6mm (.236in.), depth of cut 1,6mm (.064in.). For apertures, it is first necessary to drill a hole of 11mm. (.440in.) dia.

The picture below shows the tool in use, notching the edge of a brass sheet. To cut a rectangular aperture (e.g. window) it is necessary to first drill a hole, through which the notcher blade is inserted. It is then a simple matter to work towards each corner to produce the required shape.
